I Returned: a road map for athletes
“My scar reminds me where I’ve been but it will not dictate where I’m going.”
ACL injuries are common and increasing, unfortunately. The average annual rate of ACL injury during a 16-year study period examined was 0.15 per 1,000 athlete-exposures with annual 1.6% increase over time. Despite a renewed societal focus on injury prevention, ACL injuries still can happen.
If they do happen, we are here to help you step onto the field and court again and play with confidence.
Knee injuries are both physically and emotionally painful. The road to recovery is long and can be filled with setbacks and uncertainty. Return to play after ACL injuries is 6 to 12 months for most. For athletes, serious injuries have an even greater impact because of the drastic lifestyle changes. An athlete’s sense of identity is tied to playing their sport, so serious injuries can dramatically alter their sense of self. At Advanced Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, addressing the impact this injury has on the whole person, not just physical ailment, is crucial to returning to play successfully.
To better serve these unique needs of competitive athletes, Advanced Orthopedics & Sports Medicine created the I RETURNED program. I RETURNED provides athletes with goals, structured plans and customized support during your return to play treatment journey. It also provides encouragement, suggestions and experience from other athletes who have been standing in your same shoes.
The biggest challenges you face can also be the most rewarding. Our goal is that you will return mentally and physically stronger. We are here to help you on this journey.
